Trojan Horse cake

The prototype horse went well. He is stuffed with M&Ms. The horses are made with brownie mix. I baked two of the same horses to make it a "doublewide". Chocolate frosting fills the gaps. The pony is dusted with cocoa and cinnamon. His tail and mane are chocolate licorice. Overbake the brownies a bit, you want the legs to be hard enough to stand on. But the middle must be soft enough to scoop out and remain edible! Let it cool in the pan a few minutes, then loosen from the sides and dump it out carefully. Make sure it doesn't stick fast to the surface it's cooling on. Cool thoroughly, even let it dry out a bit. Then scoop out the middle. You can see that this half of the horse has also been sawed horizontally to make it flat. It will have to lay flat against the other half of the horse. Oh, stuff with Peeps or an army of your choosing *before* putting the two halves together.
The finished product, complete with one lone Peep soldier riding the horse.

The cake was met with some skepticism.
From the rear view, you can see they are entirely free standing.

Starbucks the Original

From my recent business trip to Seattle.  Some dip$h/t illegally parked his rental car in front, probably the guy taking the photo of his woman holding her iced latte.  At any rate, this is the first Starbucks location.

S'mores

In the end, she skips the s'mores and directly eats the Hershey bar, pinky out to be proper.

Dunkin Donuts, Shanghai

Throwback from my March trip to the Orient. America and now China both run on Dunkin. I had one of their funky donuts: blueberry coconut. They gave me a free Dunkin Donuts truffle with it. Yes, a chocolate truffle in a tiny little box. Crazy.

Chinese foods

Typical meal in Tianshui (L-R) fat noodle soup, bamboo shoots, green vegetable w/out English translation, cauliflower, another unidentified green vegetable with eggs.

Noodles with beef and bok choi in the city of Suzhou

During this business trip, I was served many interesting foods including:

1. silk worm maggots
2. smoked duck neck with head
3. roasted pigs feet
4. fish larvae soup
5. fermented "stinky" tofu
6. carmelized eel
7. corn smut

There were also some beverages which I do not typically drink:

1. hot coconut milk
2. hot orange-ade
3. cucumber juice
4. carrot juice
5. chrysanthemum tea

And there were numerous dishes served where my hosts couldn't (or wouldn't) give me an English translation, so I didn't know what the heck I was eating. More often than not, there was no beverage available with or after a meal. It left me thinking "can I get a Coke Zero around here?" No?

Bûche de Noël

The meringue mushrooms were not that hard to make.
